Dora Cornelio
Prior to joining Schmidt Salzman & Moran, Ltd., Dora was an Assistant State’s Attorney for Cook County in the Civil Actions Bureau – Civil Rights andTorts Litigation Division. In that role, she practiced before the Circuit Court of Cook County, and in federal court in the Northern District of Illinois, where she handled all aspects of litigation, including pre-trial preparation and motion practice. She also served as a legal extern for the Honorable Franklin U. Valderrama, in the Chancery Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County.
Dora serves as Chair of the Chicago Bar Association’s Real Estate Tax Committee and is an active member of the organization. She also serves as Immediate Past President for the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois (HLAI) and previously served in multiple Officer roles, and is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Women’s Property Tax Association.
Dora is also an active member of the community. She has been a Member of Wilbur Wright College’s Paralegal Program Advisory Board since 2013. Recently, she became a member of the Board of Directors for Casa Central and is also a Board Director of HLAI Charities. Dora was named to Negocios Now’s 40 Under 40 List for 2020, the Hispanic National Bar Association Top Lawyers under 40 in 2023, and Super Lawyers Rising Stars 2024.
Dora is a graduate from DePaul University and obtained her law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law, and is admitted to practice law in Illinois and the Northern District of Illinois.
